The overgrown drive/trail is between the forks of the ancient pine to your left. BLM land south and Dixie National Forest in the distance.

Late Fall

Regardless of everything going on for all of us, November is early fall in the mountains. No viruses, no ballots, and cold fish, (very cold fish!!).

                                                                                                           

The leaves have fallen and are covered in white. In four months or so, it all begins once again.

Spring is coming sooner than you expect, don't hesitate and shorten the coming season waiting for a purchase to close escrow. 
Normal early spring is in mid April and preparing your property for your personal use can begin earlier than you can imagine.

FISHING !!!!

Following the high mountains fire and storms a few years ago, the reservoir fish population has rebounded well. The Department of  Wildlife stocked Tiger trout and the residual spawning Rainbows are thriving.

My family and I fished solid last week, every morning for 3 hours amid the rest of their mountain experience.

Amazingly, all the trout are exceptionally heavy for this early in the season. They survived ice-over perfectly.

The Tigers are a sterile addition to the fishery and have serious teeth for a trout. They eat both anything and constantly.


Heavy snow pack put the lake over the spillway for two months this year.  Very good conditions for the spring Rainbow spawn.

Hard Water

Spring is coming as it does every year. 




No amount of wishing will bring ice-off any sooner. The 14.5 foot Lonestar is waiting with me for longer, warmer days.








The Tiger trout did very well last year and I expect them to be larger and more aggressive than ever.

Following the fire/flood ash damage to the reservoir last summer, almost all of the Rainbow Trout in the lake were killed. A few of the spawners survived but not many. A self spawning lake such as this would recover but it would take years.
The Utah Fish and Game stocked 13,000 7" Tiger Trout fingerlings in the cleaner lake in November prior to ice over.

The Tigers are an aggressive species that are known for nicely fighting anglers (an excellent game fish).

The fish have done very well from 7" to 13" in seven months.

Being a sterile breed, they will grow while the Rainbows move to recovery.

I fished the lake in mid July, fishing was excellent and the Tigers have adapted well and are surface feeding constantly. 

The meat is very pink when skinned and has a very mild flavor.

It doesn't get any better than this!

Mechanical/Electrical Design

Use great care in the review of the electrical design of the solar powered cabin you may be considering.

I might even suggest a QUALIFIED home inspector. A PE would be my choice if you feel uncomfortable.

There are a number of considerations for winter and summer use.

I have always had hot showers for 25 years irregardless of the rest of the planet. 3500 gallons of clean water in the basement.
Plumbing design is more than important!

Utah Mountains For Sale

For those of you who may be interested in this log home or the fantastic area of the properties, the blog is very large with many pages and posts.

This is an amazing rainbow and represents the beauty of the area.

We play in the snow every year. Normally never see it over 20" deep.

The Crack

The front glass was installed 25 years ago by Bud and I. It was 15 degrees and snowing but we got the two center panels installed in one day. 

Early last year the crack started, not bad for 25 years of hot and cold with an occasional bird strike.

The 12" crack showed itself in February and began to grow.

No worries here since the glass was cracked on the outside of the 1/4" laminated safety plate. Lami' will not fall apart (windshield glass).

By July of this year, the crack was about 7' long and growing at about 3" per month. Click on the pictures for more detail.

 An old friend from Vegas and his buddy brought me a new piece of glass and installed it.

This piece of glass is 4ft by 10ft in size. I didn't remember the size being as difficult to handle as it is.

My custom hoist to lift the glass into place (110 lbs) was scoffed at and the three of us just lifted it into place.  

All new trim and the job was done correctly. Remove and Replace in six hours.

Finally!!!

After a year and one half, fresh trout for dinner!!

The lake is only 20 minutes
to actual fishing in the boat. I've got this down to a science.

We have the five minute fish and the the 20 minute fish. You release the five minute fish to irritate any unseen watchers and the 20 minute goes on the stringer. 

Today was 6 Rainbows in 90 minutes. Three came home for dinner.........

This is the high speed "vintage fishing equipment". A Jeep Cherokee and a 1957 Lonestar 14 1/2' boat.

I bought the Lonestar in about 1983 and it never fails to catch fish!

These accessories go with the cabin if it ever sells.

Another Showoff

In the early spring, the wild turkeys begin moving back up the mountains to nest and breed. They travel down in the fall and back up each spring.
This group is herded by the first Tom I have seen and definitely the biggest showoff in the group.

Here they are trucking up my driveway (10 total).

And then...........old Tom (the camera showoff) turns around and comes back in front of the camera.....Did he see it???? naw

And shows his stuff!!! Tell me he didn't see the camera..........Tell me again!!!!

Fall is in the air, but very warm this year. The maples are turning in the canyon, they change color by time of year and not by temperature as I always assumed.

There are about four miles of maples that are located in areas of underground water.

This is quite the sight every fall and actually lasts about three weeks and then its over.



As the year progresses, the trout fatten up and become more active. Three months under the ice stresses them (and me!!) but the summer months allow a nice recovery.

This is an ample meal and fresh Rainbows are perfect for dinner. I fish the lake into late November. Actually amazing fishing in a snowstorm.
Great fishing 15 minutes from the cabin.

At the time I decided to place the Cabin up for sale, the finish on the metal roof had begun to fail. These are painted galvanized roofs and do not deteriorate except for the finish.

I had a new roof installed with a 30 year finish warranty. The first one had a 10 year warranty and lasted 18 years. The snow slips so much faster now.

 
The vistas in the mountains are amazing.........
